The position is permanent.Key Features of the Role:The position will be instrumental in the provision of ICT technical support service including operating systems (Windows & Linux), RDBS (primarily SQL Server), 3rd party software (primarily VMware), proprietary software and networks (LAN/WAN).Across the various locations preventative and rectification maintenance will be necessary both on land and offshore. Along with the varied challenges will be the installation, commissioning and setting-to-work activities at their world-wide customer locations to coincide with the provision of technical and operational training at those same locations. Remote and onsite support, 24/7, is managed on a rota system allowing coverage nationally and on a globally.Within the Company there will be provision to provide technical support to the Marketing and Sales departments along with the production of important regular reports and necessary documentation for administration and invoicing purposes.Support will be varied in location and discipline, covering the marine sensors including radar, radio, CCTV, AIS, etc. On a more personal level this position will contribute in customer support department meetings, if required.A significant amount of time will be spent in Scandinavia, especially during the probationary period. Thereafter, extensive travel can be expected within UK and overseas including working offshore and at height. Knowledge and Skills:You will ideally be an accomplished IT Support Engineer, a team player but also able to work independently. They are committed to improving the quality of education and life in the county of Cambridgeshire. This position is based out of one of their Academies in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.THE ROLE: Your role as a Senior IT Technician will be to work in the IT Support team to assist the staff and students across the Trust and throughout the wider schools supported by the Trust providing a professional, customer focused service and support. This role will be based within our client’s Academies supporting our local users, however more often you will be supporting our customers within their schools surrounding our Academies. You will travel to our customer school sites to resolve issues within their networks on an agreed schedule. You will make a major contribution to the successful management of the IT systems managed by the Trust’s IT team, ensuring the smooth running of the systems and strive to assist all users to operate at optimum efficiency in the delivery of ICT. This is an investigative and customer facing role, which requires good communication skills, problem solving techniques and a pro-active attitude to work.Key Responsibilities of Senior IT Technician to include:-Help to ensure the smooth running of all computer equipment within our schools. Ensure that the IT systems on our customer sites are fully functioning and documented.Ensure that faults and problems are quickly rectified using the IT Helpdesk, undertaking fault finding, repairing equipment where possible and organise external repairs where necessary.Ensure that the department meets with SLAs with particular attention to keeping resolution times low with a realistic timescale communicated to the user. Visit customer sites on weekly schedule and work through the IT support jobs logged within our helpdesk that require on-site attention. Assist with the installation and configuration of all new computer hardware to ensure that it operates to maximum potential. Support project roll-out across the Trust and customers supported by the Trust. Provide training and support to staff as required in all applications & systems used by staff and students across the Trust to a basic minimum level. This will include formal and informal training sessions as directed by the line manager. Be aware of and advise the line manager on all Health and Safety matters relating to ICT and have knowledge of and be able to implement safe working practices. Keep up to date with new technology, advising and recommending where appropriate. Any other duties commensurate with the post, as agreed with the Trust’s IT Director.Please note this list is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be required to carry out any relevant additional duties as per management instruction.THE CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will have a customer service focus, be a team player with the ability to also work on your own, often under pressure.
